This hot and humid weather is not helping my floor refinishing project. Boo. I got her all sanded and ready for the finish on schedule (last Saturday), but I have been waiting to put down the finish when its not so stifling hot and humid. It looks like tomorrow will be a decent day. This is the floor after sanding…
When it is done it will have 3 coats of oil-based polyurethane, which has a amber colored hue. I have to wait 8 hrs in between coats, so it will end up being a 2 day process. The plan is to get 2 coats on tomorrow, and 1 on Sunday. More details to come later on. The furniture will go back in on Monday. Can’t wait. Getting tired to maneuvering through the jungle of random furniture that is strung about upstairs. The kids are looking forward to being able to look out into the backyard again.
On a separate note, I am also planning on working on the front steps tomorrow. They need to be cleared of debris, scrubbed with deck cleaner, and dried before I can go ahead with staining them. After a lot of back and forth, I picked the a semi-transparent stain color called “brick red” from Menards. It is $7 off this week ($2 sale, and $5 mail-in rebate). It is a nice cross between brown and red. I will also be staining this:
The old swing set at my parents house. It has seen better days, and could use some sprucing up for the grandchildren. No, not the kitty sons–actual human children. My nieces in fact. I think it is about 15-20ish years old and has never been sealed. It is actually in pretty good shape, and the pressure treated lumber is holding up well. It has had a couple repairs and additions over the years including the lovely shingled roof on the house. It will be getting some new plywood sides as well. There is a fair amount of algae growing on it, but it should come clean with a bit of scrubbing and a good power wash.
Those are my big to-do projects this weekend. What do you all have planned?
